Field Trip Friday- Schnepf Farms/Queen Creek

Field Trip Friday: Meeting the kids of Queen Creek High School 

For this Field Trip Friday, we head over to Queen Creek, and join the kids of Queen Creek High School, home of the "Bulldogs." Tonight, they face Campo Verde High School, for a 7 p.m. away-game. 

It may be Fall Break for the Queen Creek Unified School District but the campus is still buzzing with excitement. The Bulldogs are 7-0 and the marching band is getting ready for Fall Band Camp.

  • QCHS Varsity Football team is 7-0
  • 2% of the first month's proceeds at Someburros Queen Creek goes to QCHS Marching Band
  • Last year, QCHS Cheer brought home a 5th place trophy from Nationals in the show cheer division against 24 teams and an 8th place trophy in the all-girl stunt division against 51 teams. Pom team placed 5th in the Varsity Pom division.

Other athletic news:

  • QCHS girls' volleyball team is upperclassmen heavy. They have record five players who've committed to Division 1 schools.
  • Varsity football team visited the tiny Bulldogs at TOYBOX preschool on the campus of Queen Creek High
  • Queen Creek Unified School District offers Unified Sports which is where students with special needs compete in sports with general population.
  • QCHS Swim Team has qualified for state

Field Trip Friday: Rent an airstream trailer at Schnepf Farms 

They are tiny hotels with tiny price tags! It's the Airstream trailer campground at Schnepf Farms, one of the newest happenings on the farm, where you can choose from eight vintage Airstreams from the 1940s to the 1970s.  We get a sneak peek at this glamping style of camping as we bring you the sights, sounds and the life of farm living.

Monster Jam rolls into the Valley

Family Game Day Foodie: Cardinals vs Eagles 

The Cardinals are on the road this week at the Philadelphia Eagles, and it's going to be a tough fight. So, Heather Walker is here with some heavy artillery for you NFL weekend warriors. And, this week it’s all about the hot submarine sandwiches. 

Arizona Cardinals Red Sea Meatball Subs

Prep Time: 15 minutes / Cook Time: 45 minutes / Servings: Approximately 6 subs


  • 2 lbs. Open Nature Australian Grass Fed Ground Beef (15% fat)
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 large cloves of fresh garlic, minced or pressed
  • 2 tbsp. mustard
  • 2 tbsp. ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 jars Organics marinara sauce (25 oz. each)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 12 slices Provolone cheese
  • 6 large, fresh sub rolls

4 tbsp. butter, melted
1. In a large pot or dutch oven, combine the red wine, brown sugar and marinara sauce.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.  Heat on medium heat until it comes to a simmer.  
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped bell pepper, green onions, garlic, mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, eggs and bread crumbs.  Season with 1/4 tsp. each salt and pepper.  Mix well with your hands until combined.  Roll the meat into 2" meatballs and place them into the marinara sauce.  Cover the pot and allow the sauce and meatballs to simmer on low-medium heat for about 45 minutes.
3. Split the sub rolls down the middle and brush them with the melted butter.  Lightly toast them in the toaster oven for 2-3 minutes or under the broiler for a 1 minute.
4. Place 2 slices of cheese into the center of each of the rolls.  Spoon 3-4 meatballs into the center of the sub and top with some of the marinara sauce.  Serve immediately.
Philadelphia Eagles Healthy Philly Cheesesteak

Prep Time: 15 minutes / Cook Time: 15 minutes / Servings: 6 sandwiches


  • 2 lbs. Organics Grass Fed Strip Loin Steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium green bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz. sliced baby crimini mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 6 whole wheat sub rolls
  • 6 slices reduced fat provolone cheese
  • salt and pepper

1. Heat the oil in a large skillet on high heat.   Add the mushrooms and season with salt and pepper to taste.  Cook on high heat for 5-6 minutes until mushrooms are brown and liquid is cooked out.  Transfer the mushrooms to a large bowl.
2. Add the peppers and onions to the skillet.  Cook on high heat for about 5 minutes, until slightly browned and softened.  Remove from heat and transfer to the bowl with the mushrooms.
3. Add the steak to the skillet.  Cook on high heat for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned.  Remove from the heat, slice into strips and set aside.
4. Return all the meat and vegetables to the skillet.  Toss them all together until combined.
5. To serve:  Cut the wheat rolls down the center.  Cut a slice of cheese in half and place it in the center of the roll.  Divide the meat/vegetable mixture amongst the rolls and serve immediately.
