Ahead To The Past began as an effort to thank two band mates of Todd Becker’s, the founder of Ahead To The Past, for building him a Fender Deluxe Reverb guitar amplifier from scratch.

One band mate hand-wired and hand-soldered all the electronics. The other band mate crafted the cabinet out of 100+ year old Red Oak that had been in his family for generations. At the time, Todd was in possession of a very Art Deco looking guitar amp that got him thinking about what else might be able to house an amp that had similar, if not more impressive, architecture.

The Sedona Red Philco cabinet found on the Ahead To The Past website was the very first effort towards that goal.

Becker says working with one’s hands always seemed to run in the family. Both sets of his grandparents would re-purpose old furniture and other household items--stripping them and then refinishing or repainting them.

Becker does a lot of sanding and removing of the very beat up original finishes and stains them in new, more vibrant colors--like bright reds, yellows, honey

ambers, even some blue and green.

Though he was receiving praise from his friends and family who were the happy recipients of his hard work, Becker did face a bit of an uphill battle among the established antique radio re-finishers out there.

Many purists were putting in every effort to restore the radios to their original condition, Becker is adding color and sparkle-- along with guitar amps, digital speakers, and blue tooth technology so the speaker would work from his IPhone.

So Becker joined the Arizona Antique Radio Club to hang out with and learn from the purists! When ordering, you can personalize your speaker.

Becker has a stock of speakers and radios of various sizes and color and can find one to re-finish to your liking as well. He says giving these beautiful pieces new life is a way of therapy for him. The cost is anywhere from $250- $900.

They are so truly stunning and a real labor of love.
