PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

An  Arizona dance company is already hard at work for the holidays and preparing for the highly-acclaimed performance of "The Nutcracker."

Ballet Arizona held auditions at its facility near 28th Street and Washington Street on Sunday morning.

Kids of all ages put on their best performances.

Ten-year-old Sienna Lee and her older sister Marina have been through this before. They were both in "The Nutcracker" last year.

"My favorite part is the backstage, seeing the dancers, everything not just the pretty outcome," said Marina.

"It's a fantastic experience. They get their hair and makeup done, They get to do what they practice. It's a big celebration as thousands of people are cheering for you," said ballet master Joseph Cavanaugh.

In the end, there are only 150 spots and with more than 300 people showing up to audition, there will be some disappointment.

"Some may not get the part but that's life. We are not always gonna get what we want. I think the greatest thing is that they are practicing something that they love," Cavanaugh said.

Those who make the cast will be performing in one of the three best "Nutcracker" performances in the country, according to the New York Times.

For those who are new to "The Nut Cracker," Marina has some advice.

"Just to have fun and not worry, enjoy it because it might not happen again," Marina said.
