Lufkin, Texas (AP) -- A Texas police department is conducting an internal review after a woman escaped her handcuffs in the back of a police SUV and stole the vehicle, leading officers on a high-speed chase.

It happened Saturday after police cuffed Toscha Sponsler outside a beauty shop where she was suspected of shoplifting.

Video released by Lufkin Police shows the woman slipping out of the cuffs, then climbing into the driver's seat while officers searched her bag on the ground outside.

Officers chased the stolen SUV for more than 20 minutes at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper used a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver to make her lose control of the vehicle.

Sponsler faces charges including escape, aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
