Driver ejected after rollover crash during race in Avondale

AVONDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A driver was ejected from his vehicle after a rollover crash caused by a street race in Avondale Tuesday.

Initial reports from Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies on scene said a Chevy Tahoe and a Chevy Suburban were racing on Maricopa County 85 when they touched causing the Suburban to crash into a third vehicle and rollover. MCSO later said the accident and the specifics surrounding the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The driver of the Suburban was ejected from the vehicle and was transported with life-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured in the crash including three kids in the third vehicle.

M.C. 85 was closed between 119th Avenue and Avondale Boulevard for several hours while deputies investigated the collision.

Our initial headline and story indicated this accident occurred in Buckeye, it has since been corrected to indicate the correct city of Avondale.
