PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A man was hospitalized after he escaped a Phoenix house fire by going through a window, firefighters said.

The house fire happened near Seventh Avenue and Bethany Home Road Monday night.

The 49-year-old man made it through the front window in order to avoid the flames, according to Capt. Ardell Deliz with the Phoenix Fire Department.

He was transported to a local hospital in serious condition from smoke inhalation.

Deliz said the fire is under control and an investigation is underway.

The home, which is under a remodel, suffered most of the damage in the attic but fire crews are exactly sure where the fire may have started.

Deliz said the man who suffered injuries was staying there to take care of the house during the remodel.
