MARICOPA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A woman was hospitalized after she was stung more than 100 times while walking her dogs in Maricopa on Sunday morning.

One of her dogs apparently disturbed a bee hive in a maintenance box in the Homestead subdivision just before 9 a.m.

The bees swarmed and attacked her. Her dogs reportedly tried to shield her and were also stung multiple times.

Two people nearby also tried to shield her from the attack by covering her with coats.

Firefighters arrived and reportedly used a foam screen to push the bees back so the woman could be moved to safety.

The woman was taken to Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center.

The dogs were given to a local pet rescue where they were reportedly treated and had multiple stingers removed.
