Man dead after stabbing near light rail in Phoenix

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A man has died after he was stabbed near the light rail Saturday night in Phoenix, police said. 

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. near 19th and Dunlap avenues, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police said a fight led to the stabbing on the light rail platform. The victim, a 40-year-old male, was transported to a hospital where he later died.

The suspect fled after the stabbing, police said. The suspect is described as an African American male between 25 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall weighing 170 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt, black pants and carrying a black backpack with colored accents. 

The light rail station was temporarily shut down because of the investigation, according to Phoenix police. Anyone with information is urged to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or for Spanish speakers call 480-TESTIGO.
