The Peoria Police Department will act as a hub Saturday night for west Valley officers processing DUI suspects. Up to 50 officers from several agencies will be conducting saturation patrols through 4 a.m. Sunday morning.

Jason Frazier, state executive director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), says it’s important for those celebrating the holiday weekend to develop a game plan before adding alcohol to the mix.

Whether it’s a designated driver or a ride-sharing service, Frazier says making a decision to avoid getting behind the wheel drunk should happen well before the evening is underway.  He adds drinking diminishes judgment, which can cause a driver to make a potentially deadly mistake.

MADD volunteers will be supporting officers at the Peoria Police Department headquarters with food, water, and anything else they need for what may be a busy night of traffic stops.

The West Valley DUI Task Force event is funded through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
