Police arrest suspect in connection to fatal shooting at Mesa apartment complex

Authorities have made an arrest in a shooting that left one man dead at Mesa apartment complex near Center Street and Brown Road early Friday morning.

Mesa Police Dept. spokesman Detective Nikolas Rasheta said Miguel Castro, 26 entered the residence of the victim, 37-year-old Shane Gilliam, with two or three other males with a handgun.

Rasheta said Gilliam confronted the group and was thrown to the floor. Witnesses described hearing shots fired and Gilliam was seen on the floor.

Investigators said an acquaintance of Gilliam's, his cousin's girlfriend, owed Castro money for pills. 

Gilliam was left in serious condition and later died of his injuries. 

Castro was identified as the alleged shooter Saturday morning. Castro was taken into custody and charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of first degree burglary.
