DEWEY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A 38-year-old man struck a school bus and an SUV before taking off on foot from the scene in Dewey, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

On August 28 around 4:30 p.m., deputies investigated a traffic collision near Dana Street and Prescott Street in Dewey.

A Humboldt Unified School bus was traveling westbound on Prescott Street when it was struck by a Kia Sorento which ran a stop sign.

The Kia struck the front door of the bus and then spun, impacting the rear of the bus, YCSO said.

The Kia then struck a parked Ford Explorer, pushing it into a chain-linked fence.

The driver of the Kia, later identified as 38-year-old Gerald Dempsey from Dewey, ran from the scene.

Witnesses gave chase but were unable to locate Dempsey, YCSO said.

The bus driver and an adult in the bus both complained of pain from the accident but it is unknown if they were transported.

Dempsey has a $25,000 aggravated assault probation violation warrant and is now also wanted for hit and run, causing injury.

He is described as a white male, with brown hair and eyes.
