"Safe Football" being practiced at more Valley high schools

As high school football teams brave the summer sun and head into summer practice, now, more high schools will be offering "safe football." Higley Unified School District is the latest to adopt this program, thanks in part to McCarthy Building Companies, who stepped in financially to bring the district the "Safe Football Coaches Clinic."

Safe Football is a proprietary instructional training and skill development system for football coaches and players. It is designed to increase on-field performance while simultaneously reducing head and neck injuries from helmet contact on the field. The philosophy is safety through superior technique by eliminating the use of the helmet, since repeated head contact is the underlying cause of concussions and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Safe Football is the only program to gain adoption at all levels of the game, from youth to the NFL, as well as the only program to boast proven results in prevention.

The instructional programs have gained 100% adoption by every coach and player trained to date, due to the competitive advantage the techniques provide. And Safe Football also offers certification through its Coaching Clinics, with ongoing support and advanced programs, as well as Youth Football Skills Camps and High School Player Camps delivered by former NFL players.

To date, Safe Football has delivered 750 clinics and camps, certified 5,000 coaches, and trained more than 40,000 players from youth-level players to the NFL's Detroit Lions, USC Trojans, University of Washington, and others.

Enjoy your vacay but keep your health goals

Christina Jordan, Master Nutritionist & Founder of Fit Body Weight Loss, says she wants you to enjoy your vacation! But you don't have to come back feeling guilty either. She shows us a healthy "mock-tail", lettuce wrapped club sandwich and crunchy parsnip chips with hummus.

1) Plan for a treat meal, not a treat day. This means YES you can have that delicious slice of pizza with the family, but skip the doughnuts, milkshake, fries and handfuls of greasy chips. By focusing you’re eating on healthy 80% of the time your vacation, you give your body the nutrition it needs to feed metabolic hormones. This means you can splurge a little once a week while vacationing. (*This also is a great tip for home as well.)

2) Eating protein and healthy complex carbs, like fruit and veggies, with every meal will help lower stabilize your insulin levels and keep you from packing on the extra vaca-pounds. I've used this even while on an all-you-can-eat cruise and still came home at my healthy weight.

3) Relax! Vacation is all about relaxation, de-stressing and enjoying life. This will actually lower stress hormones, such as cortisol, and allow your body to burn stored body fat in your midsection. Not to mention it lowers adrenaline levels which makes you a much happier, relaxed and emotionally stable person. This is a WIN for everyone!
