CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed on Pecos Road in Chandler Thursday morning.

It happened just after 8 a.m. east of Arizona Avenue, an area that gets quite a bit of foot traffic.

The victim, described only as a Hispanic or Native American man, was jaywalking, police said. Investigators are working to identify him, but say he was not carrying any kind of ID.

Video from the scene showed a Ford Focus with obvious front-end damage near the railroad tracks. Investigators do not believe excessive speed or impairment were factors in the wreck and said the driver of the Focus will not be cited.

Police believe the Focus was traveling at about 45 mph when it hit the man. At that speed, it can be extremely difficult for a driver to slow down or stop in time to avoid a collision.

Pecos Road is closed in both directions between Alma School and McQueen roads. The Chandler Police Department tweeted that westbound Pecos traffic was being diverted at Hamilton Street.
