PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 17.

It happened at 7:22 on Monday morning on the northbound side of the freeway at Pinnacle Peak Road, according to Trooper Kameron Lee with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Trooper Lee said a pickup truck, for an unknown reason, went off the road right on northbound Interstate 17 at Pinnacle Peak Road, traveled up the embankment and struck the bottom of the overpass.

The Pinnacle Peak Road overpass was shut down due to the impact from the collision so engineers could verify the bridge was not structurally compromised.

Interstate 17 northbound was briefly closed and later restricted during the investigation.

The only person in the truck died at the scene.

Apparently, no other vehicles were involved in the deadly crash.
