PEORIA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Walmart on 79th Avenue and Peoria Avenue was evacuated Saturday after reports of a suspicious item. Employees and shoppers were standing outside while police investigate.

The Peoria Police Department tweeted shortly after 12:30 p.m. that the device, which appeared to be a homemade explosive, was fake and that there was no danger.

Crews were checking the rest of the store as a precaution before giving the official all-clear.

Officer Brandon Sheffert of the Peoria Police Department said shortly after 2:30 p.m. that detectives were still "actively investigating."
