PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A hiker was assisted from Papago Buttes Friday afternoon after getting stranded on the side of the mountain.

Phoenix Fire Captain Ardell Deliz said the 19-year-old man was stranded on the side of the mountain and was beginning to lose his footing.

A park ranger heard the hiker calling for help and climbed to the area he was stranded in to assist him down the side of the butte while additional rescue crews came to help out.

Soon additional crews from Phoenix and Tempe fire arrived to help the hiker down. "They used a 35-foot ladder to reach the man and get him down to safety," said Deliz.

The man was taken to a hospital to be checked out for dehydration.
