Phoenix police have identified the man killed early Friday morning in a shooting at a motel.
Authorities say 47-year-old Anthony T. Freeman died after being shot at the Airport Inn near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and they believe the person who pulled the trigger is on the loose.
Officers were looking into an unrelated report of criminal damage in the area when they heard gunshots at about 3:45 a.m. Friday.
When they arrived at the motel, a witness directed them to a room where they discovered Freeman who had been shot in the head. He was in extremely critical condition when he was taken to the hospital. He died a short time later.
A second man was wounded, as well. He reportedly was staying with Freeman in the room but was outside at the time of the shooting. His wound, a graze to the arm, is not life-threatening. He reportedly stayed at the scene and is cooperating with detectives.
"There were other witnesses in the room and at this time their statements are inconsistent due to possible involvement in illegal activity," Sgt. Mercedes Fortune of the Phoenix Police Department said in an email response to our inquiry.
Police have not released any suspect information at this time other than that person or people should be considered armed and dangerous.
