GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Two men were killed when a motorcyclist hit a man in the street in Glendale on Thursday night.

According to police, the motorcycle rider, Dustin Scherr, was heading north on 59th Avenue when he struck a 53-year-old man near Bethany Home Road.

It happened at about 6:15 Thursday evening.

Officers said Philip Wilson, a Glendale resident, wasn't in the crosswalk.

Scherr, 20, was wearing a helmet.

"Both men were treated initially on scene and then transported to a local Valley hospital with life-threatening injuries," according to Sgt. Scott Waite and Officer Tiffany Smith of the Glendale Police Department. "They were both later pronounced deceased that evening."

Detectives believe speed was a factor in the crash, but they have not yet determined if either man was impaired.

Police said 59th Avenue was closed between Bethany Home Road and Maryland Avenue for hours.
