TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

The Tempe Police Department is trying to find a man who they say tried to kidnap a girl at an apartment complex on Thursday.

It happened at the Coronado Apartments near Broadway Road and McClintock Drive around 7:10 p.m.

According to police, the suspected tried to pull the 6-year-old girl into a four-door sedan.

She was able to get away and wasn't hurt.

The suspect is described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, thin build with tattoos on both arms and was wearing a red t-shirt and black jeans.

Police spent several hours canvassing the area near the apartment complex, looking for anyone who might have witnessed it. As of about 9:30 p.m., the little girl was the direct witness, according to Ofc. Matt Feddeler.

The girl ran home and notified her mother who called the police, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tempe Police Department.
