DPS warns drivers not to pick up hitchhikers on I-17 near Camp Verde

CAMP VERDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is warning drivers not to pick up hitchhikers on Interstate 17 near Camp Verde. 

DPS issued the warning to motorists on Wednesday evening around 8 p.m. 

Around 5:30 p,m. a DPS trooper was attempting to stop a speeding white Toyota that was estimated to be traveling at 115 miles per hour. The vehicle exited at State Route 169 and rolled several times after failing to negotiate a curve in the road.

The driver fled on foot and his passenger was transported to Honor Health North Mountain Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 20-30 years old and wearing black pants with a white shirt.
