PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Residents of a northwest Phoenix home were all able to escape safely after a fire broke out at the house Wednesday morning. The family dog also made it out safely.

Fire crews from Phoenix and Glendale fire crews worked together to douse the flames in the area of 35th Avenue and Bell Road on Wednesday.

"It's probably pretty close to being totaled. I don't know, never had anything like this happen before," said homeowner Roger Vache.

Vache assessed the damage on Wednesday afternoon. The house was a rental property.

"There was fire and heavy smoke coming out of the west side of the attic when we arrived," Said Phoenix Fire Captain Adam Garday. "We encountered more fire when we made entry through the front door."

The family that was renting the home was away when the fire broke out.

The Red Cross is stepping in to assist the displaced family.

"If this family needs a place to stay, they will get financial assistance. We'll make contact with some of our partner hotels and pet-friendly hotels, regular hotels and get them a place to stay," said Colin Williams with the Red Cross.

Long after the fire was put out, firefighters were still sifting through the smoldering debris, looking for hot spots that could reignite.

It was another day at the office for first responders but a bad day for the family and for the homeowner.

"Nobody was hurt, that's all good. House can be rebuilt I guess," Vache said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
