Free pet adoptions at Maricopa County shelters on Saturday

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Conditions are pretty packed in the county animal shelters these days, and that means it's a great weekend to adopt a new pet - at no cost!

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is dealing with serious overcrowding at both of its shelters. Staffers are trying to care for hundreds of pets.

Marcela Taracena, a county spokeswoman, said the shelter’s two locations, in south Phoenix and the east Valley, have more than 750 dogs. She said dogs are coming into the shelter faster than they can be adopted.

The shelter takes in nearly 100 animals every day and more than 35,000 dogs and cats every year, according to its website.

So MCACC is offering a no-cost adoption day this Saturday, March 18.

That's right! Adoption fees will be waived and it's the perfect chance to take home a new fur-ever friend.
