PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

At least two people suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on 44th Street between Camelback Road and McDonald Drive.

"We are awaiting word from the hospital to determine the extent of the injuries," Sgt. Alan Pfohl of the Phoenix Police Department said in response to our email inquiry.

The two patients are a 30-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, according to Kenny Overton, a spokesman for the Phoenix Fire Department. Both were taken to HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center (formerly Scottsdale Memorial Hospital). Overton said a third patient refused transport.

Details were not immediately available, but the Maricopa County Department of Transportation tweeted that 44th Street was closed in both directions between Camelback and McDonald.

Pfohl confirmed that officers were on the scene and that the roadway would be closed for the duration of the investigation.

"If the injuries are determined to be life-threatening and detectives come out, you can expect the roadway to be closed for approximately 4-5 hours," he said.

Video shot by 3TV and CBS 5 producer Kristin McCartor shortly before 9 a.m. showed several vehicles with visible damage and debris strewn all over the roadway.
