PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Police are trying to determine if drugs were a factor in an early morning shooting that left one man dead.

Officers were called to an apartment complex on Mineral Road in the neighborhood north of 48th Street and Elliot Road at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“Officers located an adult male inside with an apparent gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” Sgt. Alan Pfohl of the Phoenix Police Department said in an email response to our inquiry.

The suspect had already fled the scene.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses as they work to piece together what happened.

“Early indications show drug activity may be involved,” according to Pfohl.

At this point, investigators have not released any information about the victim.
