GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Gilbert girl showed she has a big heart by thinking of others on her special day.

Nine-year-old Avery Winberry got a lot of presents at her birthday party during the weekend.

"I got bubbles, super bubbles and then I got some books. I got some clothes and I got some Play-Doh," Avery said.

But she is thinking of others in need so she donated boxes of birthday presents on Monday.

"Whenever I think that kids are, don't have like families and stuff, I always think that they need help," Avery said.

The third grader and her friends made the donation to Child Crisis Arizona. Her birthday invitation included a wishlist for the center. Guests brought unwrapped toys and even a $500 donation.

She got the idea from her other good works in the community.

"I kept helping the homeless and then I thought that the children would need some help too," Avery said.

Help makers her smile, Avery said, and it has her mother Courtney Winberry in tears.

"I had tears of joy that ran down my face," Winberry said.

She said it's the first year Avery has given away her gifts.

"it's just overwhelming for her to have a heart the size that she does," Winberry said.

With warmer temperatures heading toward the Valley, the Crisis Center needs kids' shorts and t-shirts and summer pajamas. The facility can always use cash donations and volunteers.
