Police have identified the man who was killed after being hit by an SUV in Phoenix last night.

Police spokesman say 54-year-old Mark Dickson is the bicyclist who was struck by an SUV and left to die in a Phoenix street.

It happened shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes in the area just south of 40th Street and Bell Road, not far from Fire Station 37.

"Phoenix Firefighters from the Fire Station located near the scene of the collision were leaving the station to go to a call when they observed Dickson down in the roadway," Sgt. Alan Pfohl of the Phoenix Police Department explained in an email to media outlets Monday morning. "Paramedics tended to the victim and pronounced him deceased."

"Using evidence left at the scene, detectives were able to determine the vehicle that struck the victim was likely a 2013-2015 silver Ford Fusion," according to Pfohl. "There is no other information at this time."

Pfohl did not say if detectives had developed any information about the moments preceding the collision.

It was not immediately clear if there were any witnesses.
