SNOWFLAKE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A rancher in Snowflake is under fire from neighbors who say he's neglecting his animals.

The owner allegedly moved away and left his animals to the care of relatives.

But Angela Brown said the animals are far from being cared for.

"We found that he had left and the goats, the cow and six pigs were left on the property and some chickens," Brown said.

Her friend took pictures of how skinny the pigs are.

"These animals are emaciated, like totally skinny. I don't even know how they've made it this long," Brown said.

An organization called Planet Petopia brought food to give to the animals but they couldn't get access.

The rancher in question initially hung up the phone when we tried to reach him for comment.  However, hours later he sent this response which says he is rehabbing the animals for an older couple who could no longer care for them and that someone is checking on them.  He said quote: "The people that sent you the pictures are going to be charged with trespassing... The photos that you have are photo-shopped."

The Arizona Department of Agriculture said they sent somebody out to the ranch but the gates were locked. The department said it is in touch with the owner to deal with the situation.
