Boy, 9, plays catch with D-backs playersPosted: Updated:
What makes the Cactus League so fun is the access that the fans get to the players.
On Sunday, a young man from Chandler became part of a viral video after he played catch some D-backs players.
It's baseball season so 9-year-old Connor Barnes is getting his arm in shape.
"I play catch every day with my friends," said Connor.
But Connor has never had a day and never had a catch like he did on Sunday.
Connor became an internet sensation thanks to a tweet from the Diamondbacks.
The tweet showed video Connor playing catch with Diamondbacks catcher Oscar Hernandez and Brandon Drury.
"I threw the ball to him and then he just threw a pop-fly to me and I caught it," explained Connor. "He was like this but he might have been saying bye but he might have been like throw it here so I threw it and he was like ok, let's play some catch."
Hernandez's teammate Brandon Drury also took a throw from Connor.
It's what's unique about spring training; the fans can get up close and personal with the players.
"It's really cool that people watch it," said Connor. I've never actually gotten to play with a player before."
It's even prompting Connor to make a position change on his team, coached by his dad.
He now wants to be a catcher like Hernandez.
Who knows, 15 years from now it may be Connor playing catch with a kid in the stands.
"I want to play for the D-backs," said Connor. "I've lived here all my life. My grandpa was born near the Cubs so I really want to play for both."
