PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Phoenix police have arrested the husband of a woman who was stabbed to death.

Maria Del Refugio Soto, 42, was found dead in a west Phoenix home on Sunday night.

Police say 45-year-old Jaime Silerio-Orozco admitted to being involved in the murder.

Phoenix police were called to the home, near 75th Ave and Crittenden, for a reported burglary at approximately 9:30.

Silerio-Orozco told police he saw an unknown suspect flee the scene before finding his wife dead.

He changed his story later and was booked into jail on one count of first-degree murder.

The deceased woman was on the floor inside the home.

"Phoenix police responded to a stabbing at a home near 75th Avenue and Crittendon Lane," Sgt. Vince Lewis said in an email. "Officers arrived and located a female victim, who was pronounced deceased. The investigation is currently ongoing."

One of the Phoenix Police Department's mobile command units was on the scene throughout the night, along with detectives and crime scene technicians.

The couple has children who do live in the home but there were not there at the time of the murder.

The area was closed for the investigation.
