PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

One person was shot dead and another wounded at an apartment complex around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Phoenix police said.

A 29-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene near 4200 N. 67th Lane, Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

Police found a second victim, 20-year-old man, in a parking lot near 67th Avenue and MacKenzie Drive. That person had knocked on a neighbor's door seeking help and was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition, Lewis said.

Officers determined three suspects were involved. They fled the scene.

"I've seen dead bodies before but it's like this close," one neighbor said. "It's the scariest thing right here where lots of families with little children live. It could have almost easily been someone's child "

Another neighbor frequently saw the woman at the complex.

"She would always be by herself with a little suitcase," Maria Soriano said.

Neighbor Lelora Alexander noticed something as well.

"The bag is full of brand new clothes. They still have the sensors, I don't know if it's related to it or not," she said.

There were between 10 and 15 police SUVs at the scene as officers ramped up their investigation. They strung crime tape and began looking for shell casings.
