PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A single father of three has been deported to Mexico after he went in for his ICE check-in.

On Thursday, Carlos Fomperosa Garcia, 44, showed up for a meeting with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in Phoenix for his asylum case Thursday morning but was detained and arrested on the spot.

His daughters held a news conference Friday to talk about what happened to their father.

"He has been sent back," they announced.

The girls said they are planning to go to see their father to bring him clothes and other belongings since "he was sent abruptly."

The daughters said their father was doing OK. "He's fine. He's also confused by what happened, as we are. But we're hoping for the best."

The family held the news conference at the office of Lucha.

The organization released this statementICE released the following statement about the matter:

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers removed Mr. Fomperosa Garcia to Mexico Friday morning through the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona. Relevant databases indicate Mr. Fomperosa Garcia has been previously repatriated to Mexico three times, including a formal deportation in 2014.  Last year, he was again ordered removed by an immigration judge with the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals ultimately upheld the lower court’s decision. In addition to a lengthy immigration history, databases show Mr. Fomperosa Garcia was convicted in 2015 of a federal misdemeanor charge.

ICE will continue to focus on identifying and removing individuals with criminal convictions who have final orders of removal issued by the nation’s immigration courts.”

This case comes just a few weeks after a woman, also a parent of U.S. citizens, was deported by ICE.

Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos was convicted felon and when she came in for her regular check-in, she was detained and deported within 24 hours.
