PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Phoenix homeowner says a man carrying what appears to be his young son on his shoulders stole his Amazon package.

Around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Manuel Holguin says his surveillance camera caught a man walking up to their home and took a garage part he ordered off his doorstep near 27th Avenue and Southern Avenue.

“It looked like a family man, someone around my age,” said Holguin.

In the video, it appears the young boy is wearing a backpack. Holguin believes the father just picked up the boy from school and came across an opportunity to steal.

“If it was just some punk teenager or something like that, it would be one thing but it’s like a dad and his kid. It’s strange. It’s a new low,” said Holguin.

As a precaution, Holguin plans to add more surveillance cameras and have packages delivered to relatives or secure Amazon lockers at a gas station nearby.

While the theft is frustrating, Holguin hopes the son doesn’t follow in the thief’s footsteps.

“It was really disappointing that he was doing this in front of his kid, teaching him the wrong morals I think. That’s not a very cool lesson to teach your kid, how to rip people off and take stuff,” said Holguin.

“Hopefully someone intervenes, maybe mom is a little more level-headed and he gets the lessons passed on from her. Otherwise, the kid is going to be a little thief just like his father,” he said.

While Holguin didn’t file a report with Phoenix Police, he plans to share the video and details of the theft with neighbors at an HOA meeting.

“For all we know, this could be a neighbor,” said Holguin.
