Getting your final paycheck really varies from state to state.

Here in Arizona, if you quit, you'll have to wait until the next pay cycle to get your check. Employers do not have to give it to you any earlier than that.

"I've been waiting for my paycheck a long time," Steven Guzman said.

When we met up with a group of young adults, they complained to 3 On Your Side that they worked hard for a Valley cleaning company, but when they left, Guzman says he never received his final paycheck.

"No, I haven't got my last check yet, was supposed to get it in the mail. They said they're going to mail it in the mail because I'm not with them no more," Guzman said.

Guzman and the others say they were employed as cleaners. Meliza Ortega and others say they did a lot of janitorial work.

"Basically clean, mop and sweep. Basically on our hands and knees cleaning," Ortega said.

Even though they worked for the company for only a few weeks, these former employees claim they were never given their final paychecks.

As a result, they filed "unpaid wage claims" with the Arizona Industrial Commission.

In the meantime, the group also got a hold of 3 On Your Side and we spoke to the owner of the cleaning company. The owner referred us to his attorney who told 3 On Your Side they would look into the matter and they did. As a result, those missing checks arrived days later.

The group says they're glad to be finally paid because Guzman says money is tight.

"Every dollar counts right now at the moment," Guzman said.

If you're having problems getting your final paycheck or any paycheck for that matter, file a complaint with Arizona’s Industrial Commission. They'll investigate and help get you paid.
