TOLLESON, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A 5-month pregnant woman was thrown from her car in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

Her injuries were initially described as life-threatening, MCSO spokesman Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said.

"She is in stable condition," Enriquez said. "The concern right now is the unborn child. We know there was internal bleeding as far as that goes so we're just waiting for results from the hospital."

Enriquez later tweeted that mom and unborn baby were both in stable condition and that their injuries were not life-threatening.

The accident happened during the morning commute just after 7 a.m.

"The vehicle traveling westbound on Broadway Road was actually clipped by another vehicle exiting 71st Avenue," Enriquez said. "That vehicle was spun out. The driver of that vehicle, a female 5 months pregnant, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries."

A third vehicle was struck by the rear axle that broke off the woman's car.

Sheriff's investigators said the victim was not wearing a seat belt.

Enriquez said speed might be factor.

"Not excessive speed but sheriff's detectives are on scene investigating. Impairment is not an issue in this case," he said.

The drivers of the other vehicles were not hurt.

No criminal charges were expected to be filed, Enriquez said.

The westbound lanes of Broadway Road between 67th and 71st avenues reopened at around 9:15 a.m., according to Maricopa County Department of Transportation.

MCSO has investigated three fatal accidents since Saturday.

"Just a message to all the drivers out there," Enriquez said. "Be aware of your surroundings. It's been a busy weekend just for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office as far as fatal accidents."
