One woman was killed and a man was hurt after they crashed into a truck while riding an ATV in the Sycamore Creek Recreational Area.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the pair were on a quad when they collided head-on with the pickup truck on Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m. on Roma Ranch Road leading into Lower Sycamore Creek from State Route 87.

The driver had an open leg fracture and was flown to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital, where MCSO said he is in critical condition.

The female passenger died at the scene. She was identified as 24-year-old Vera Maria Losoya.

The ATV driver was later identified as 24-year-old Adrian Acosta.

The driver of the truck wasn't hurt.

It's unclear what led up to the crash.

Impairment and speed aren't considered factors, deputies said.

MCSO is investigating.
