Not-guilty plea from Buckeye teacher accused of sexual conduct with foreign exchange student

The Buckeye teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old foreign exchange student pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday morning.

Goodyear Police arrested Joshua Schroder, 36, on Sunday, Feb. 12.

He was booked on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Schroder is a teacher at Rainbow Valley Elementary School in the Liberty School District. Police said he is also the coordinator of a foreign exchange student program.

According to court documents, the 17-year-old girl is from Sweden.

The girl's host mother told police that there were over 600 text messages sent between the teen and Schroder over the last month, according to the court paperwork.

When the teen’s mother came here from Sweden, the teen told her and her host mother that the relationship had turned sexual.

Schroder, who has been teaching fourth grade for 10 years, is due back in court for a pretrial conference on April 12.
