TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

If you're in the market for a new computer, you're in luck.

The Apple Xchange in Tempe sells "like new" Macs for a fraction of the cost.

"At a minimum, you'll find our prices are going to be about 30 percent lower than walking into an Apple store and purchasing a new computer," said owner Alan Chook.

He opened the store in 2009 and as Apple succeeds, so does he, and so do you.

"If it's $1,300 to walk into an Apple store for a minimum computer, it's not uncommon for it to be around $400 from us," Chook said.

It works like any other exchange style shop; owners bring in items they no longer find useful and, after a thorough inspection, the Apple Xchange buys them.

"If someone does bring a computer, we look at their needs. Are they looking to upgrade or maybe they can upgrade their existing computer first," Chook said.

What ends up on the sales floor is offered for far less than what you would pay for a similar model at Apple.

For example, something comparable to a 2011 Macbook Pro would run you around $1,200 new but is only $649 here.

Store Manager Dave Raymer says customers can't believe what they see.

"Most people are shocked, realistically, at the prices that we have and they assume something's wrong with them. Is there a catch? Is there an issue?" Raymer said.

The only issue is age, but just like Apple, every product sold here comes with a one-year warranty.

If you're looking to sell an item, they mostly buy models from 2010 and newer. If you want to buy something, they'll transfer your data to your new computer at no cost.

Typically if you're selling a computer to them, you'll get anywhere from $100 to $800, depending on the model.

The Apple Xchange is located near Southern and McClintock in Tempe.
