The jackpot for Wednesday's Powerball game jumped to an estimated $403 million after no one matched all six numbers in Saturday's multi-state drawing.

Whoever wins the Powerball grand prize can choose to take the lump-sum cash payout, which is estimated at $243.9 million. Not too shabby! The lucky player can also opt for an annuity paid out over 29 years.

While the odds of winning are slim, 1 in 292 million to be exact, players may have a better shot of taking home the jackpot with a Quick Pick. About 75 percent of past winning tickets were selected when a computer chose the numbers, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

The first thing you should do after buying your ticket is sign it. In ink.

"Players should sign the back of the ticket in the same way they would sign a check or any other legal document," according to the Arizona Lottery's player security web page. "All tickets need to be signed. By signing the ticket, players ensure they are the rightful owner of the ticket [and any resulting winnings]."

A Glendale man learned that lesson the hard way in December. He claimed a woman stole his winning Fantasy 5 ticket and then tried to claim the $1,000 prize.

Tickets are $2 each and you have until 6:59 p.m. to buy them. Wednesday's winning numbers will be drawn at 8:59 p.m. Arizona time.

Prizes range from $4 for those who picked just the Powerball or one number and the Powerball to $1 million for those who get all five numbers but miss the Powerball.

  • 5 numbers, no Powerball = $1 million
  • 4 numbers + Powerball = $50,000
  • 4 numbers, no Powerball = $100
  • 3 numbers + Powerball = $100
  • 3 numbers, no Powerball = $7
  • 2 numbers + Powerball = $7
  • 1 number + Powerball = $4
  • Powerball only = $4

Choosing the Power Play option increases those prizes.

If no one wins, the jackpot will continue to grow until the next drawing on Saturday.
