CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Chandler police officers tried to stop a woman suspected of DUI and she took off and led police on a pursuit before being arrested on Monday afternoon, police said.

According to police, the attempted traffic stop happened at Arizona Avenue and Chandler Heights Road. The woman intentionally backed up her Chrysler sedan and rammed the patrol car, police said.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

She then drove off on Riggs Road. Chandler police said they pursued her and then later stopped.

Eventually, deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office stopped her at Power and Riggs roads. She was taken into custody there.

Her name has not been released by law enforcement.

However, we talked to her son, who said her name is Martha Herrera and claims she is bi-polar.

"She just got out of the hospital a couple of days ago," Jay Herrera said. "Her health has been damaging to our whole family."

He said this is the second or possibly third run-in with police.

"When her bi-polar isn't kicking in she's the nicest person but when it does kick in, you could tell there's a different in how she acts and stuff. She doesn't want to be around people. She gets confused a lot and she starts feeling angry and stuff like that," Jay said.

He claims she wasn't drunk and was off her medication.
