MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A 7-year-old accidentally fell on her arrow, piercing her neck during an archery competition in east Mesa.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday the girl was walking on a trail in the Usery Mountain Park when the accident happened.

The tail end of the arrow, also called the "knock," is what pierced her neck.

Amazingly, it didn't damage her windpipe or hit a major artery.

Rural Metro says they rushed to the scene and had to take a big wheel stretcher up the trail to get to the young girl.

Crews managed to cut the arrow in half and then rushed her to the hospital.

She is expected to be OK.

The park is located at 3939 N. Usery Pass Rd.
