MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

An instructional assistant at a high school in Mesa was arrested earlier this month for allegedly having sex with a teen girl.

Ronnie Dwayne Hudson, Jr. works at Westwood High School and has been placed on administrative leave, a spokeswoman for Mesa Public Schools said. The victim didn't go to that school.

According to court documents, Hudson first met the 15-year-old girl on a social media app.

Police said he was hired by the victim's mother to tutor the girl.

In November, the mother asked Hudson to take the girl to the grocery store to pick up a prescription near her house. Court documents said Hudson had sex with the teen in the backseat of his car outside the store.

According to police, the mother found out about the relationship after seeing text messages on her daughter's phone. She then called the police.

Court paperwork said Hudson admitted to the relationship and he was arrested on Feb. 9.

He faces two counts of sexual abuse and one count of sexual conduct with a minor.

Statement from Mesa Public Schools:

Mesa Public Schools' first priority is the safety and security of our students. Ronnie D. Hudson, an instructional assistant at Westwood High School, was immediately placed on administrative leave and assigned to home pending the outcome of the police investigation. The district will use the police findings and our district policies as the basis for any future employment action against Hudson.
