Police believe a driver possibly ran a stop sign and slammed into another vehicle in Peoria on Sunday.
It happened around 4 p.m. in the area of 107th Avenue and Rose Garden Lane, which is north of Beardsley Road.
Police said an elderly driver had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The other two people weren't seriously hurt.
It's believed that impairment was not a factor, police said.
The intersection was closed for a few hours while police investigated.
