It was a wild end to a dangerous high-speed pursuit along Interstate 17 Friday night.

Our chopper was the only news helicopter above the chase and caught the dramatic ending live.

DPS first spotted the suspect speeding southbound along Interstate 17 north of the Valley shortly after 7 p.m.

At times the suspect was driving at speeds of close to 100 miles an hour.

With officers following on ground and by air, the driver finally pulled over on I-17 near Thunderbird.

But the chase wasn't over.

We watched live as the suspect bailed out of his car with his dog, threw the dog over the freeway wall and then hopped over himself.

The man and dog then ran right into traffic into the northbound lanes of the freeway, dodging cars as they ran.

Officers gave chase and soon were able to surround the suspect on the other side of the Interstate.

After a short struggle, the driver was taken into custody.

The dog was not hurt.
