YARNELL, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Several hundred dollars were stolen from a church’s donation box in Yarnell, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said.

The theft was discovered on Wednesday at around 8 a.m. when someone noticed a broken latch on the donation box at the Shrine of Saint Josephs of the Mountains.

“During the investigation, several bills with lower denominations remained in the box with some scattered in the immediate area, suggesting a smash-and-grab-style theft,” YCSO said.

Deputies said the donations are picked up on a fairly regular basis but they could not tell when the theft occurred.

People with information are asked to call the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office at 928-771-3260 or report tips anonymously to Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232. Refer to case number 17-004804.
