PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Arizona teacher pay is roughly the same as it was four years ago despite a voter-passed initiative that pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into K-12 schools.

According to the Arizona Department of Education, the average teacher salary rose by $181 since 2013 -- to $46,207 from $46,026.

The numbers surprised some members of the Arizona teachers union, who thought the average would be higher.

"This is why teachers were disappointed when the governor proposed a dollar-a-day pay raise," said Joe Thomas, president of the Arizona Education Association.

Gov. Doug Ducey made teacher pay a top legislative priority when he delivered his annual State of the State address last month.

Since then, he's been criticized for offering a .4 percent pay raise next year, which comes out to an extra $3.50 a week for teachers making the average salary.

Last year, Ducey successfully pushed for the passage of Proposition 123, which puts an additional $3.5 billion into K-12 schools over 10 years.
