PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Dozens of firefighters battled a blaze at an abandoned building in east Phoenix on Sunday evening.

Crews were called out around 5:30 to the structure at 48th Street and Van Buren Street. Firefighters said somebody reported something burning behind the build and they believe it spread to the building.

Firefighters went defensive, and then the fire went first alarm, which means more firefighters were called out to help put out there fire.

It appears the fire was at the site of the former Tovrea Mansion, which sits on 2.5 acres of land. It used to be an old meat-packing plant, the fire department said.

It's unclear what started the fire.

Crews from Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale all responded to put the fire out.

There's no word on any injuries.
