Sheriff’s detectives were looking into the circumstances behind the death of a 6-month-old infant Saturday morning.
A 911 caller phoned the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office at around 7:20 a.m. from a home in Surprise and told dispatchers the infant was not breathing, MCSO Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said.
As deputies and paramedics left for the scene, the caller said “they could not wait and began driving the infant to the hospital,” Enriquez said.
“Fire Department and MCSO deputies were able to intercept the 6-month-old infant on the side of road at 24900 N. 163rd Ave. to render medical aid,” he said.
Medics pronounced the infant dead at the scene.
There was no additional information provided this early in the investigation.
