PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Phoenix police officer escaped injury early Saturday morning after a driver tried to run him over, Phoenix Police Lt. Wayne Dillon said.

It happened as the officer was attempting to pull the vehicle over.

The driver failed to stop and led police on a pursuit.

The driver was heading on 67th Avenue and tried to turn onto McDowell Road but lost control and struck a pole head-on.

The driver was taken to the hospital.

“She’s facing charges for failure to yield, for felony flight as well as mostly likely she was driving under the influence of either drugs on board or for consumption of alcohol,” Dillon said. “We do believe she had something on board of intoxicating beverage or drugs.”

A passenger in the car was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Police weren’t releasing any names pending the outcome of their investigation.
