PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

One golfer went straight from the green Friday to a place where he could lend a hand to those in need,

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson volunteered his time at the Desert Mission Food Bank in Phoenix after playing his round at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Watson and other volunteers packed weekend lunch bags for 1,800 kids in need in the valley.

The golfer was given the opportunity to learn the game of golf through charitable efforts of others and says he relishes the opportunity to give back when in the Valley, a place he called home for many years.

For 90 years, the Desert Mission Food Bank in Phoenix has been helping those in need. Over 250 people per day benefit from donations and the time and effort of volunteers.

Since 2006, Thunderbird Charities aided by profits generated by the Phoenix Open have donated over 200,000 dollars to the Desert Mission Food Bank.
