PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Police officers discovered bales of marijuana inside a west Phoenix apartment after responding to a report of gunfire early Friday morning.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex near 99th Avenue and Camelback Road for a report of shots fired, according to Sgt. Alan Pfohl with the Phoenix Police Department.

Pfohl said the officers found an apartment door that had been kicked in and discovered evidence of numerous shots fired, both inside the apartment and just outside the front door.

The officers went into the apartment and found it was empty, however, Pfohl said they discovered numerous bales of marijuana in the bedrooms.

Two neighboring apartments suffered damage from the gunshots, but the occupants were not struck or injured.

Detectives are attempting to identify the suspects involved.
